Top Excuses for Failing A Background Check Drug Test

The national average for failed drug tests is between 4-6%, depending on where you get your information. Each year, Premier encounters a few legitimate disputes over failed drug test results. But more often than not, the excuses we hear are feeble, often entertaining, attempts to stay in the pre-employment hiring pool by people who know the results are valid.
As a kickoff to what I hope is a great, albeit safe and legal, summer weekend I thought I would share some of the Premier drug testing department's favorite excuses they have heard over the years. Enjoy.
The old stand by's:
- I only use Ibuprofen
- It wasn't mine
- I didn't inhale
- It was only one little joint!
The "You can choose your friends but not your family" line:
- My Aunt made brownies and I didn't know there was something extra in them
- I only smoked pot once with my cousin a few months ago
The Legal Eagle Approach
- I bought it in Canada so it doesn't count
- But I have a license!
- It will be legal in a couple of years anyway
My Favorites
- Wow, I thought I'd only be positive for marijuana
- I don't do cocaine, I just ate something bad
- I was at this party, see, and there was this girl....
Thanks to Vaunna Jones and the entire Premier drug testing department for starting the weekend off with a chuckle. And remember to Let Us Know if we can help with your drug testing program or any other pre-employment screening needs.
Have a great weekend!
